Ridgeway signs up to Beat the street!

Ridgeway Primary has agreed to take up the challenge to Beat the street again this year.

Beat the Street is a walking and cycling health initiative, that will take place from 29 April -24 June 2015. Schools have been invited to take part to help increase the physical and social activity of pupils by taking part in a ‘race to space’.

Beat the Street has been commissioned by NHS and Reading Borough Council, Public Health. Beat the Street encourages pupils, their families, teachers and governors to track their walk to school using smartcards that they tap on ‘Beat Boxes’, found along their journey.

‘Beat the Street’ ran throughout Reading last year and 15,074 residents took part competing in school and community teams. The initiative had an unparalleled effect on physical activity levels throughout the Borough, with an 18% increase in people meeting the government guidelines for physical activity on 5 or more days per week.

To get involved in the Beat the Street competition please contact us at ben.taylor@intelligenthealth.co.ukas soon as possible.
