A SECTION of Northumberland Avenue in south Reading is to be closed during the day for the next three weeks while essential roadworks are carried out.
Carriageway stabilisation works between Canterbury Road and Cressingham Road will start on Monday 9th November. The work, being carried out by specialist contractors, will seek to stabilise the carriageway which is made up of concrete slabs which have settled over the years. The road will be resurfaced once the work is finished.
The road will be closed between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday but local access for residents will be maintained where possible. Letters have been sent to householders advising them of the works and advance notices have been placed in the street.
Reading Buses has also been informed and will be diverting their services during the works. Councillor Tony Page, Reading’s lead councillor for transport, said: “Anyone who lives in Northumberland Avenue or who uses it regularly knows the carriageway is in a poor condition and is in desperate need of repair.
“Northumberland Avenue is a busy road and the works will inevitably cause some inconvenience but we hope disruption can be kept to a minimum. I’d like to thank local residents and road users for their co-operation and patience in advance.”
